Elwyn Rees 1953, on the AJS 7R he bought from Eddie Stephens & which
earlier Eddie had provided for Emrys Walters to race. Elwyn's lap time
from this very circuit was 4min. 46 secs. setting up the fastest practice
lap at 65.45 mph before lunch even with an elusive & intermittent
clutch slip which later in practice threw Elwyn & broke both
ankles....The intermittent fault was finally traced to the screw cap cover
of the gearbox sometimes fouling the operating lever within & Elwyn
although shortly after Epynt journeying to the Isle of Man on Crutches
was allowed to start the Junior Manx Grand Prix with an assisted push
start , he turned in a fine performance too. |
